Last year the school was awarded some money from the Lottery fund. This money has been used to fund a lawn mower, two planters and a notice board to support the village in their Ledston in Bloom work. The vision for the rest of the funding was to develop a community allotment that is nurtured by both school and residents in the village. In turn the flowers grow are to be used for hanging baskets around the village and the produce harvested to be sold at a fair price to the community and the local pub, where the children will then be supported to use it to cook and prepare food to be sold at a community event. Some of the money has also been used to subsidies Forest School teaching and learning, where the children have actively learnt about caring for local fauna and flora, for example building bug hotels and bird boxes
This week saw the end of phase 1 of our community allotment project work. Just look at the before and after (nearly finished) photos.
BEFORE
AFTER (nearly finished - there is 2 more days work after these photos were taken)
HUGE THANKS to THE COMMUNITY PROJECT TEAM (and to all those who have attended over the past three weeks and to the ones who hid when I asked for a photo!)
