Woodwind

We've had a great two terms of exploring music through Woodwind Instruments. The whole of year 5 were given the opportunity to try out the Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Alto and tenor Saxophone.  They were then given an instrument according to their preference to use in weekly lessons and to take home to practice. This opportunity is part of a small schools initiative with Lady Elizabeth Hastings, Ledston being one of three schools taking part.  The hope is that all three schools will come together to perform as an Orchestra at the end of the school year.

The opportunity to learn and experience music in this way is unique to the project.  Mrs Morgan the music teacher said that 'The year 5 pupils have been a joy to work with and have achieved a great deal in a short time.  I have been particularly impressed with the number of musicianship skills they have gained: learning to count, play and follow the conductor at the same time is not easy. They have also learnt to play and read basic notation and have learnt extra responsibilities of playing in a band such as setting up and putting equipment away. The Smalls Schools Initiative is an excellent way to learn an instrument and to learn invaluable musical and transferable skills'.
