Viking Ship Scientific Investigation

Which hull 'shape' makes the most effective ship for speed and 'manoeuvrability'? We looked at water resistance and wind resistance and conducted fair tests before we found the answer. The 'winning' ship was not the shape we originally predicted, but this generated some great discussion when explaining the reasons for the results.

Elite Rugby Festival

Viking Experience (part 2)

The three Vikings who visited from Jofor's Hall gave us a fascinating insight into what life must have been like all those years ago when they settled in the British Isles. The children are going to use the information, history,  knowledge and the newly learnt vocabulary they have gained from the Vikings, to add detail and realistic description when writing their newspaper reports and recounts.

.......but were quite domesticated really!

Bjorn showed us the weapons he had made using authentic Viking methods and processes.

Finn explained about how animals were hunted not only for meat but also for their skins. The skins were used to keep the Vikings warm, line the walls and floors of their huts and to make every day objects and utensils.

Pentecost Experience

We know that Christmas and Easter are significant celebrations in the Christian Calendar. But.... Pentecost???

The children in Hastings Class were invited to St James' Church in Weatherly this afternoon to commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the followers of Jesus shortly after He was crucified. Some Christians believe that this event represents the birth of the Church.

Mrs Sharp, and her team at St James', made us feel very welcome as we engaged in a number of activities that helped us to reflect on the Christian festival of Pentecost.

During our visit, we observed a minute's silence to remember the victims of the Manchester Arena atrocity.

As always, opportunities for our children to participate in events and experiences outside our immediate locality, are only made possible by the goodwill and availability of parents and volunteers who assist in transporting children to venues further afield and who are willing to engage in the work and learning we do in school. We never take this for granted and behalf of the children, staff and governors of Lady Elizabeth Hastings, I'd like to say a huge thank you to all the parents and staff who helped with today's experience. Thank you!

KS2 Sponsored Fitness Fun!

The Royal Wedding and British Values

This week we have been caught up in the excitement of the Royal Wedding whilst considering what a vibrant and diverse society we live in. We have discussed what  'being British' means. We have talked about the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. The key message from our youngest children in The Ark is.....

"We know we are all special. We treat everyone equally. We listen and respect other people's opinions and values. We have a voice and can make our own choices. We follow school rules because we know that they are there to keep us safe and happy. It doesn't matter if we are different.... we are loved just the same!"
