Merry Christmas everybody!

Look how we spent the last few days of term!

Our youngest children sang a Christmas Carol for local parishioners who joined us for a Christmas Dinner on Thursday.

Our School Council helped Ms Copperwheat from St George's Crypt to load up her car with all the fantastic items which you so generously donated.

On Monday evening we held our annual Carols by Candlelight Service. Many thanks to Miss S, Mrs F, Mrs W, Mr T and all our amazing singers and instrumentalists for making this event so special.

The whole school participated in a Christingle/Crib Service in Church on Tuesday afternoon. It was wonderful to see everyone at Church. The children sang beautifully and carried out their roles perfectly.
On behalf of the staff, children and governors, I wish you  all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

All smiles and Christmas Cheer in Ledston!

We had the loveliest day today!
Our youngest children performed their Nativity Show.

We served Christmas Dinner to our most 'distinguished' local residents and showcased our talent!
For those who were unable to visit us.....we visited them!
Rev'd Robinson joined us as we went Carol singing in the village.
It was lovely to say thank you to some of our most loyal friends who over the years have supported the school in so very many ways!

Thank you to Christine and Carol in the kitchen.....your fantastic hard work today was so very gratefully appreciated and the food was delicious! Cooking for your family on Christmas Day will be  a 'doddle' after this!

Thanksgiving Service at All Saints Church in Ledsham

Children in Year 6 visited our Parish Church in Ledsham on Friday to take part in a special service of thanksgiving for the life and work of Lady Elizabeth Hastings (1682 - 1739). The Archbishop of York and Directors of the Lady Elizabeth Charities spoke about the love Lady Betty had for all people; her devotion to charity, her kindness, her generosity of spirit, her empathy and selfless wisdom.
Since Lady Betty set up a Trust Deed providing for the establishment of the Lady Elizabeth Hasting's Charities in 1739, tens of thousands of people have received grants that have enriched their lives. Children and families from our school have also benefited and will continue to do so in the future. It was a great honour to sit in the same pews in the same Church as Lady Betty did and give thanks to God for the life and work of this amazing lady; she died 278 years ago but her legacy still lives on.

Getting ready for our Christmas Fayre!

Today, as the Year 6 children were making their snow globes, some very important visitors popped in!

Sarah and Ann, Tesco Community Champions from the Garforth store, met Ruby and presented her with a hamper of Tesco goodies to be used as a raffle prize at Friday's Christmas Fayre.

Ruby was so pleased that Sarah had responded to her letter with a superb gift and even more delighted when Sarah and Ann took time out of their busy schedule to visit our school. Thank you, Tesco.....you are true community champions!

Fruit Sculptures

We love our striking fruit sculptures based on the work of a range of still-life artists such as the French artist Paul Cezanne. We have improved our mastery of art and design techniques using Papier Mache. Some of our creations look good enough to eat! Thank you Mrs C.....we look forward to our weekly art lessons!

Wilderness Adventures

What an amazing challenge Steve, Director of Wilderness Adventures, took on this morning in our school grounds! Oscar Bedford had filled in the hazardous pond during the Summer holidays, but the area quickly became overgrown with brambles, nettles and weeds as you can see from the "before' photos below.

After a few sessions of hard graft, Steve has transformed the area creating seating, a fire-pit and a frame just waiting for a tarpaulin covering so that children can enjoy learning about the natural environment and increase their knowledge of the beautiful habitat in our school grounds. Can't wait to see it in use tomorrow......bring on the rain! (Wish I was in Wheler Class!!)

Bebras Computing Challenge

Children in Year 5 took part in a 'practice'  Bebras challenge today at Queen Ethleburga's College in York. The challenge is designed to get children all over the world excited about computing, particularly focusing on computational and logical thinking.

As a bonus, we had a tour of Queen Ethleburga's....one of the highlights was coming face to face with the 8m high transformer 'Bumblebee', which has to be seen to believed!!!

Up to this point, Brigshaw was our preferred choice of secondary school!!! Our children will complete the 2017 challenge by the end of the week. Early indications (from the practice tests) show that many of our children will receive Distinctions and Merits! A massive thanks to Ms Walker for organising this project and for welcoming us so warmly to Queen Ethleburga's College.
