We have brilliant scientists in The Ark!

Children in The Ark have been applying their maths skills in Science in a variety of ways this week......

Using metre rulers, tape measures and 30cm rulers the Year 2's  compared the length of their arm span with their height, their face length to their foot length and their forearm length to their foot length.

The Y1's used their hand span to measure their height and the length of various body parts. They are hoping to find some similarities.

Meanwhile in Ledston Class,  Y1 children have been reading scales on thermometers in degrees Celsius to find out which materials are the best insulators.

It was tricky to count in tens, fives and ones when reading the thermometer......

The children plotted the temperatures on their graphs......

They talked about the differences in temperatures and from the results of their experiment, agreed on the material that was the most effective insulator.

Tim Peake's Space Project for Primary Schools

We have signed up to take part in a Space Science project next term. What do astronauts need to know and what do they need to be able to do as part of their training?

What have astronauts discovered about soils and rocks from other planets?
How do astronauts keep hydrated in Space?
Meteorites and craters...what can we find out by scientific investigation?
Train like an astronaut....wear thick gardening gloves to carry out basic tasks like changing batteries in a torch or pressing buttons on a calculator. Is this what it was like for Tim Peake?

Photograph Day!

Children in Ledston Class first thing this morning, waiting for their photo to be taken. Did they come home looking as smart as this after a day of learning and play?

Smile!......

Christmas Card Designs

The children have been busy designing their Christmas graphics so that parents can buy sets of unique cards to send to relatives and loved ones. These designs can also be printed onto mugs and coasters... a brilliant way of having a permanent reminder of your child's artwork each Christmas. By the time your child leaves Year 6, you could be the proud owner of a set of very festive and original coffee mugs. The last date for orders is Monday 7th December.
