Fantastic Science this week!

We have enjoyed lots of Science in school this week...........

Lotherton Class have been acting out the process of pollination in flowers. In the photo above, H is playing the part of the bee!

Ledston Class have been predicting whether an object will float or sink.....

Then they tested to find out................

Some floated, some sank and one object was very strange; part of it floated and part of it sank! The tricky learning was where to place it in the hoops!

Gascoigne Class 'embalmed' a tomato to see if it would last longer than a 'control' tomato! They asked the question 'Does the Egyptian practice of embalming/mummification really slow down the decomposing process?'They will inspect their tomatoes at one weekly intervals to see if their predictions are correct.

Pupil Council's Patriotic, Playground, Picnic Party!

Finlay, Millie and Jaden, Y2 Bloggers from Wheler Class, today wrote about Friday's event:-

"We are all dressing in red, white and blue to represent the Union Jack (our country's flag). Parents are welcome to bring their own picnic to eat. We are going to have a game of football and also celebrate the Queen's birthday. Everyone will stop what they are doing when the National Anthem is played. How entertaining it will be!"

(The apostrophes of possession and exclamation sentence are all their own work!)

Visiting Author-John Dougherty

On Friday 10th June, the whole school (including staff, parents and governors) had a wonderful afternoon being entertained by John Dougherty, author of the Stinkbomb and Ketchup Face Series and many other popular books.

John visited each Key Stage in turn,

read extracts from some of his books....

and sang hilarious songs that had us in stitches!

He also conducted a question and answer session and shared with the children the events in his everyday life that inspire him to be a writer.

At the end of the day, during the book signing session, he wrote a personal message and signed well over 100 books for children at our school.

Thank you to Mrs W for winning the competition run by Oxford University Press for John to visit our school.

We haven't laughed so much for ages!

Designing and Making Boats in Wheler Class 2

The children in Wheler Class had to apply some very deep thinking to work out how to make model boats out of a selection of different materials. Go to Class 2 Blog page to see how they got on.
