Our Fond Farewells

As we reach the end of the school year, it is the end of an era for some of our families as we say a final goodbye to, the Budds, the Conders, the Dwyers, the Gibsons, the Gilmores, the Halls, the Haymans, the Holmes, the Lightfoots, the Lindley-Evans and the Stevensons, as we wish them future heath, happiness and success. Although your time at Lady Elizabeth Hastings school has now come to an end, we hope her legacy lives on, please remember as past students of this school you are eligible for grants in the future via

·         full uniform, tie and school logoed jumper/cardigan
·         Black school shoes, no fashion boots

We ask that you support our drive to keep up our standards so that we con focus our energies on delivering high quality care and education for your children

Reading Bags
From September, all children in school will be allocated a reading book each week, with the expectation that all children read at least one book a week. We have invested a lot of money in to the buying of books and expect all children in YR to Y6 carry their book in a book bag. Again, we ask that you support our commitment to raising achievement in reading whilst ensuring that our books remain inviting to read for many years ahead.

Leavers BBQ and Sleepover

This evening evening it was the leaver’s BBQ and opportunity for their families and friends to meet informally. Thank you to everyone who attended and for all your kind donations towards the buffet. After the BBQ the Year 6s had a ‘sleepover’ in the school!

Leavers Assembly

Today, the Year 6s reflected on their experiences at Lady Elizabeth Hastings School as we celebrated their time at Primary School. Always an emotional event, it was lovely and fitting to applaud these amazing young people as they leave us ready for their next chapter.

Jump up day!

It was jump up day today, where the children went to meet their new teachers. During the day the teachers launched their topics for next half term with memorable experiences. Wheler’s topic next term is ‘Enchanted Woodland’ and they were treated to a presentation from the Woodland Trust. ‘Predators’ is Lotherton’s topic for next half term and they encountered some rather scary animals. Gascoigne’s topic for next half term is ‘Burps, Bottoms and Bile’ and Thackary Medical Museum came to us. Next term, Hasting’s topic is ‘Darwin’s delights’ and they were given the opportunity to investigate living animals and skeletons. Walking around school it was great to see the children’s engagement and joy. We look forward to receiving the children’s summer homework tasks at the beginning of next term.

Bikeability

On Monday and Tuesday, our Year 6 children worked with bikability to learn the necessary skills to ride confidently on today's roads. At the end of the training all the children were successful in achieving the Level 2 award.

A concert at Wetherby St. James' Church

Today, our Year 5 woodwind musicians traveled to St James’ Church in Wetherby, to work alongside other musicians from Leeds Primary schools where they practiced and prepared for a musical concert. This project, led by Leeds Artforms, was ambitious but our children rose to the challenge and the feedback received from staff and parents who attended was very complimentary.

LEAP's Summer Fair

What a way to end the week! The LEAP committee certainly pulled it out of the bag. With lots of stalls, competitions, raffles, tombolas, face painting, a BBQ and bar, it really was a well-run, enjoyable event. Thank you to all the children and staff who helped out and gave up their time, too. Finally, I’d like to thank everybody who came along and supported the event by spending their money… we will update you on the amount raised in the next newsletter.

SPORTS DAY

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such good sportsmanship and slick running of sports day by children. They were amazing with all children in YR-Y2 taking part in at least 4 races each and all Y3-Y6 children taking part in at least 5 races each. It was especially touching to see Hastings children encouraging the younger children in the morning. Then in the afternoon, seeing the Y2 children set up and run the Key Stage 2 event with such confidence and efficiency. Thank you, children; it was a most memorable event.

Thursday’s trip to Eureka, really showed how our Reception children excel at learning through play. Their interaction will all the exhibits was incredible and their use of manners and turn taking exemplary. Thank you to the staff who organised the educational experience and supervised the children.

Day Spring Church

On Monday, Day Spring Church came to deliver their final Collective Worship for this academic year. The focus on Monday was centred around telling the truth. Anne and Mike showed us how telling lies is like collecting rocks in a back pack, as one lie tends to lead to another… and another… They explained how telling lies can weigh us down. They then read Matthew 7:35 from the Bible and discussed the importance of truthfulness. Before leaving, Anne and Mike presented all the Y6 children with a book called ‘Moving on’ to support them with their transition to secondary school

Ukulele Concert

On Tuesday morning, Gascoigne Class treated the rest of the school and parents to listen to the work they had been doing with Mr Grant. It was very impressive to see 28 children all playing their ukuleles together to perform and sing together.

SATs Results

Well done to all our Year 6 children who received their SATs results today.
The high stakes placed on these tests by the Government inevitably can make this day a nerve wracking one. However, the children’s self-confidence and knowing the true characteristics of  fulfillment and success meant that our children took it in their stride. It was heartwarming to see them congratulating one another on outstanding performances and being supportive of one another when a result may not have quite been quite what had been hoped for. The staff and governors are full of pride and acknowledge all the achievements of our Year 6 children over the past 7 years.

Musical Recital

Huge thanks go to Mrs Flynn and to her musicians for their amazing recital on Monday afternoon. Leo opened the recital, setting the standard for performances, playing a duet with Mrs Flynn on the clarinet. Finlay in Y1 was amazing on the Ukulele and he even had the confidence to join in with the advanced ukulele group as they played Shotgun at the finale. Eliette, Chloe and Jenna each played solos on the piano showing everyone how much they had learnt since their last time playing in front of the school at Christmas. Tom was fantastic playing the guitar… an Ed Sheeran in the making?  Both the beginners and advanced Ukulele groups played melodies, showcasing their talents. Well done to every one involved, you were stars.

A Leavers Service at Selby Abby

Today our Year 6's joined other Year 6s from local Church of England schools for a special leavers service. The service marked the important milestone in our  children’s lives and gave thanks as they prepare to begin the next chapter in their education.

Making our Musical Mark!

Artforms came in to school yesterday to video our woodwind players as they practised and performed during their lesson. Lady Elizabeth Hastings is the first school in Leeds, to trial whole class woodwind instrument teaching and the video produced is going to be used for promotion throughout the district. Well done also to Finlay, Leo, Lola and Millie, who represented LEH admirably at Brigshaw’s Music Concert on Thursday afternoon.

Understanding Islam

Today, the children in Year 6 visited the Grand Mosque in Leeds. During their visit, they were given information out about the role of the Mosque in the community, what it’s used for and insight into the activities that take place there. Additionally, the children discussed the beliefs of a Muslim and the close relationship between Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Before leaving, the children were shown traditional clothing from around the Muslim world and they were given the opportunity to try some on. Feedback from both Imam Nabilah and the children was very positive and we look forward to welcoming Iman Nabilah back to our school next term.

Inter school Cycling competition

Congratulations to the children who represented our school at the inter school cycling competition, you were up against some tough competition yet you showed true grit and determination and really did our school proud coming a very credible 3rd, thank you.
